De Bruyne is reportedly on the brink of a move to Manchester City, but German website Sport 1 understand United have entered the running at the eleventh hour.
In order to prevent De Bruyne moving to the Etihad Stadium, though, United will need to act swiftly. The Belgium international has, according to the Guardian, already agreed personal terms with Manuel Pellegrini’s side ahead of a big-money move to the Premier League.
Bayern Munich have ruled themselves out of the running for De Bruyne, who scored 10 goals and provided an astonishing 21 assists in the Bundesliga last term, leaving the two Manchester clubs to battle it out for the 24-year-old’s signature.
However, Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail has played down Sport 1’s latest report, informing his Twitter followers that Manchester United are not trying to sign the former Chelsea attacker.
