Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea tweeted Petr Cech during Arsenal’s
0-0 draw with Liverpool on Monday night, applauding the Gunners’ No. 1
for his superb individual display at the Emirates Stadium.
Cech, 33, made amends for his disappointing Premier League debut for
Arsenal by producing several world-class saves to keep his side’s clean
sheet intact against Liverpool.
The Czech Republic international made a point-blank save from
Christian Benteke and produced another finger-tipped stop to deny
Philippe Coutinho in the first half, before earning himself the Man of
the Match award at the end of a pulsating goalless draw.
Cech earned the plaudits from a host of current and former players on
Twitter, including ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who tweeted:
“Wow!! Top top saves by @PetrCech keeping Arsenal on the game...very
good Liverpool tho.”
De Gea, meanwhile, hadn’t posted a single tweet in 10 days prior to
this evening but clearly felt compelled to applaud the magnificent Cech -
expressing his thoughts through the use of emojis.
