Confirmed: Raheem Sterling joins Man City from Liverpool on a five-year deal

Raheem Sterling has completed his £49million transfer from Liverpool to Manchester City and takes the No.7 shirt.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini said: “Raheem Sterling is one of the best attacking players in world football, and I am very much looking forward to him joining our squad out in Australia later this week.

“He is a young player with outstanding ability, and I am sure the Manchester City fans will be very excited about seeing him in action for the team."

A statement on Liverpool's website read: "Liverpool Football Club can confirm Raheem Sterling has completed a transfer to Manchester City.
"The 20-year-old departs Anfield after 129 appearances and 23 goals for the Reds.

"Liverpool FC wishes Raheem well."

The capture of Sterling makes him the most expensive English player in history, surpassing Andy Carroll who moved to Liverpool for £35m in 2011.

It also breaks City's transfer record, which stood at £42m for Sergio Aguero.

QPR are expected to land around £9m from the deal after Sterling moved to Liverpool from the London club in 2010 aged 15.
