Arsene Wenger is convinced his side are capable of winning the Premier League and Arteta says they can step up to the next level after back-to-back FA Cup wins.
Arsenal finished 12 points behind champions Chelsea last season but
many feel they have got their best squad since ‘the Invincibles’ won the
title in 2004 and Arteta says confidence is high within the camp ahead
of the new season.
“We have been together a while now and we have this belief that we
are capable of achieving something important,” said the Arsenal captain.
“It took some time to build this cohesion, this momentum. I think the
crowd is feeling much closer to the team and together we can make it.”
Arsenal go into Sunday’s Community Shield against Chelsea on the back of two pre-season wins against Wolfsburg and Lyon in the Emirates Cup.
The Gunners, who secured a 1-0 win against Wolfsburg yesterday,
having thrashed Lyon 6-0 on Saturday, also lifted the Barclays Asia
Trophy after beating Everton in singapore.
“Pre-season has been good,” added Arteta. “The tour in Singapore was
great, probably the best we have had. Here, the opponents were tough but
we played well and won both games. The Emirates Cup has been a really
nice tournament.”
