Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Real Madrid
before Gareth Bale departs the Bernabeu - that is the view of Bale's
former Wales manager John Toshack, who has backed the former Spurs man
to win over the boo-boys in the Spanish capital.
Bale came in for
criticism last season, from Los Blancos fans and the Spanish press, as
Carlo Ancelotti's side failed to win any of the three major honours up
for grabs.
They all went to Barcelona, which saw the Italian get sacked, and speculation of a summer move away from Madrid for Bale.
However,
it looks as if he will be staying put, in a bid to recapture the form
he showed in his first season in La Liga, helping Real to the Champions
League and Copa del Rey titles.
Toshack, who has had two spells in charge at the Bernabeu himself, says
he expects Ronaldo to go before Bale, and that the ex-Southampton flier
should be played centrally if he is to be at his most effective.
"My
own opinion is that we will probably see, for one reason or another,
Cristiano move from Madrid before Gareth," Toshack said.
"You do
need time to adapt and obviously for the money they paid for him [Bale]
and at the age that he is, he's still got a lot to do.
"I hope Gareth will get the opportunity to play in an area of the field where he can do most damage.
"I'm not so sure wide is Gareth's best position. I think Cristiano has got a bit do with that.
"He was always a number seven, but likes to play left side and I think Gareth suffers a bit for that."
